Tour Marisma del Guadalquivir
We invite you to discover a place of merchants who opted for new maritime transit routes.

ROUTE
The Doñana National Natural Park hides a real story about its creation: its name comes from the daughter of the princess of Éboli.
When she visited the current park, she fell in love with it and that is why it was named after her.
Stories like this, and many more!, are part of our adventure…, just like the Guadalquivir River and its mouth in Sanlúcar, it contains a wealth and stories of merchants who traveled in medieval times to carry and bring various merchandise from those long trips moving through Europe, Africa, America and Asia… .
Our proposal and historical adventure was born to learn about the fauna of the area from bird watching places, traveling along the Guadalquivir river along its slopes full of wonderful landscapes… .
BEGINNING OF THE JOURNEY
The tour will begin next to the Guadalquivir River, passing through steep roads towards our first stop at Venta El Santero for breakfast.

Next we will enter extensions of wooded plains of cork oaks and eucalyptus to reach the Dehesa, it will be here where the journey will take us to bird watching in a protected space thanks to the climate that surrounds this area, converting the place into habitat for a large number of birds, the dense vegetation serves as a refuge for numerous species, among which kestrels, wagtails, warblers, chiffchaffs, nightingales, blackbirds, robins, tits, and avifauna linked to the river habitat, such as mallards, coots, watercocks, martinets, cormorants, gray herons, flamingos and terns…,
So much so that it is here that the largest colony of storks in all of Europe is located.

The other option, EL MERENDERO, located on the shores of the marsh, will serve as a lunch area as well as LA NAVE, an old stable, renovated called MANEGODOR, which has a living room with a bar and fireplace for cold times.
Outside, a terrace from which all the estuaries can be seen. In terms of gastronomy, local cuisine includes estuary prawns (smaller than those from Sanlúcar and known as such because they are raised in this species of natural pools), fish from this area such as albures (also known as mullets) or snook (as they are called). calls the sea bass in Cádiz). Also shrimp omelettes, some eggs with potatoes and ham, called a farmhouse dish, croquettes, fried fish and some spoon stew.
The other attraction of the house is the rice with duck, which should be ordered in advance because they don’t always have it.
Some original dishes such as the “mojama” of albur, some fillets of this fish dried in salt and then seasoned or some cod roe with garlic that are served cold. For dessert, they maintain a classic from roadside sales in the province of Cádiz, pajamas, a kind of assortment of the house’s desserts. To drink the house’s must and also barrel wines from the Yuste de Sanlúcar wineries.. .
After this 45-minute stop dedicated to a special lunch and after enjoying this beautiful area, we will continue along the side of the Doñana natural park to pass through the area near the mythical hermitage and its landscape among pine forests to reach the famous path of the salt flats.
This route runs parallel to the Guadalquivir River throughout the area of the Doñana Natural Park in Sanlúcar de Barrameda. The landscape is dominated by marshes and salt flats that give the territory a spectacular whiteness contrasting with the nearby Algaida pine forest and the Coto de Doñana in the background.
